Full and partial chimney rebuilds for earthquake damage, structural failure, and building code upgrades by licensed Pasadena masons.
When masonry repair is no longer sufficient, a rebuild is the safest and most cost-effective long-term solution. Eco Grizzly rebuilds chimneys above the roofline (partial rebuild) or from the firebox up (full rebuild) depending on the extent of damage. Common triggers include earthquake damage, decades of water infiltration, failed flue liners, and code violations discovered during home inspections. Every rebuild includes new flashing, a code-compliant flue liner, a concrete crown, and a stainless steel cap.

A partial rebuild removes masonry from the roofline up and reconstructs it with new brick, mortar, crown, and flashing. The existing firebox, smoke chamber, and below-roof structure remain intact. A full rebuild removes the entire chimney structure and starts from the foundation. We recommend a full rebuild when the firebox has failed, the chimney has shifted off its foundation, or the internal structure is beyond repair.
Southern California seismic activity is hard on unreinforced masonry chimneys. The Northridge earthquake damaged thousands of chimneys across the San Gabriel Valley, and many were never properly repaired. We evaluate earthquake-damaged chimneys for structural integrity, apply for necessary permits, and rebuild to current seismic code with reinforced masonry and flexible flashing systems.
We scaffold the chimney, protect the roof and interior with tarps and dust barriers, and demolish the existing structure to the specified point. New masonry is laid course by course with code-compliant mortar and reinforcement. A new stainless steel flue liner is installed, and the crown is poured with a drip edge overhang. The entire rebuild typically takes three to five days for a partial and five to eight days for a full rebuild.
