A gas fireplace that will not ignite, shuts off unexpectedly, produces a strange odor, or heats unevenly needs professional diagnosis. The problem could be as simple as a failed thermocouple or as complex as a cracked heat exchanger. Eco Grizzly technicians are trained to service all major gas fireplace brands. We are a licensed California contractor (license 1077111) serving greater Los Angeles since 2022, and we carry common replacement parts on our trucks for same-visit repairs whenever possible.

Signs Your Gas Fireplace Needs Service

If your gas fireplace will not turn on, the pilot keeps going out, the flame is weak or yellow instead of blue, the glass is sooty or cracked, the remote no longer works, or you notice a gas odor, it is time to schedule service. Ignoring these symptoms can turn a simple repair into a full unit replacement, and a gas smell should always be treated as urgent. We diagnose all of these symptoms and quote the fix before any work begins.

Common Gas Fireplace Problems

Pilot will not light: often caused by a failed thermocouple, thermopile, or clogged pilot orifice. Pilot lights but main burner does not ignite: usually a thermopile voltage issue or a faulty gas valve. Unit shuts off after a few minutes: the ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) may be triggering, or the high-limit switch may be tripping due to restricted airflow. Strange odor: could indicate a gas leak, dust burning off, or a venting problem. Cracked glass: must be replaced with manufacturer-specified tempered ceramic glass.

Service Call and Pricing

Every gas fireplace service starts with a diagnostic visit that includes a full inspection, gas pressure measurement, and millivolt testing. You receive a written estimate before any repair begins, so there are no surprises. Most repairs are completed in the same visit, and if a part must be ordered we schedule the return as soon as it arrives.

Our Repair Process

We begin with a full diagnostic that includes visual inspection, gas pressure measurement, millivolt testing of the thermocouple and thermopile, and a combustion analysis. Once we identify the root cause, we provide a written estimate before starting work. Most repairs are completed during the initial visit. We test all safety controls before leaving and verify proper flame characteristics.

What We Service

We service gas fireplaces from all major manufacturers. If you have a discontinued model, mention the nameplate when you call and we'll confirm whether we can source a compatible replacement part or recommend a modern equivalent.

Gas Log Set Installation

Southern California

This homeowner wanted to enjoy their fireplace without the hassle of wood and cleanup. We inspected the existing firebox and flue for gas-log compatibility, ran the gas line to the firebox with a hidden shut-off valve, and installed a premium vented gas log set with a realistic ceramic fiber log arrangement and glowing ember media. The result looks exactly like a wood fire but lights with a wall switch and requires zero cleanup.

Gas Log Set Upgrade

Southern California

The existing gas log set had discolored and the ceramic logs had cracked after years of use. Our technicians safely disconnected the old set, replaced the burner tube, and installed a new premium vented log set with fresh ember media and an upgraded burner for a taller, more realistic flame pattern. The homeowner was immediately impressed by the improvement in appearance and flame quality.

Fireplace Glass Door Installation

Southern California

The homeowner wanted to reduce heat loss and update the look of their masonry fireplace. We measured the firebox opening, sourced a correctly-sized bi-fold glass door set with a matte black frame, and completed the installation in a single visit. The doors open fully for use with a fire and close tight when the fireplace is not in use, stopping the constant draw of conditioned air up the chimney. The finished result is clean, functional, and a clear upgrade over the original open firebox.

Gas Log Sets Installed in Two Fireplaces

Southern California

This home had two fireplaces, and both were fitted on the same visit. In the room with the carved cast stone mantel, our crew set the logs and grate inside the brick firebox and spread a fresh bed of black lava rock across the floor of the opening. At the second fireplace, with its tall arched stone surround and herringbone brick firebox, we fitted a matching log set on its own steel grate. Each set was lit and the flame pattern checked across every log before we wrapped up. The drop cloths and lava rock bucket visible in these shots are ours, taken while the crew was still on site.

Gas Fireplace Repair FAQs

Common questions answered by our certified technicians.

Natural gas is odorless. Utility companies add mercaptan (a sulfur compound) as a safety odorant. If you smell rotten eggs near your fireplace, turn off the gas valve, ventilate the room, and call us immediately. It could indicate a gas leak.
Yes. We install manufacturer-approved conversion kits that replace the burner orifice and regulator to match the new fuel type.
The most common causes are a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot orifice, or a faulty gas valve. A weak thermocouple cannot generate enough voltage to hold the gas valve open. We test each component during diagnosis and replace only what is needed.
Most gas fireplace repairs are completed in a single visit lasting one to two hours. If a part needs to be ordered, we schedule a return visit as soon as the part arrives, usually within a few business days.
No. A malfunctioning gas fireplace can produce carbon monoxide, leak gas, or create a fire hazard. Turn off the unit at the gas valve and call for professional service before using it again.
